1935,Flint 125, pencil signed l/r. [Bacon was noted for injecting
"real life" images into her works, although she chose not to
participate in the popular government art projects throughout the 1930s.
In her book about the artist, "Peggy Bacon, Personalities and
Places," noted art historian Janet Flint describes this print as
follows: "The scene is a post office with James Farley, Postmaster
General, at the extreme right. From left at desk, Senator George Norris
of Nebraska, Harry Hopkins {wearing hat}, Administrator of the Federal
Emergency Relief Act, and Henry A. Wallace, Secretary of Agriculture.
Frances Perkins [wearing hat and fur coat], Secretary of Labor, is left
of center, and in the center is Harold Ickes, Secretary of Interior] |
